Richard commenced training in Iaido in 2005 under Ruth Franklin at Suigetsu Iaido Club, then at MacQuarie University (now at West Pymble) in Sydney. He has trained with many instructors in Australia as he has moved interstate over the years.  He also has experience in other arts including Jodo.
